This Sunday, we had a wonderful time at our sponsored YPSO Pops concert. Every year Kiwanis helps to organize, and raise money at this concert to help support scholarships for students joining this amazing orchestra.
A little late with photos but here are some photos of Kiwanis representing at the last Solano Stroll!
Every month, president Bob hosts a themed day where participants dress up to earn fun prizes. The president himself donates $25 to the international initiative Eliminate, which is working to eradicate neonatal tetanus from the world!
We had a great time at Camp Caz! This is a campsite which serves local schools and families. They host both music camps, school groups, and families! Camp Caz supports students in need by providing scholarship to families, so all kids can camp! The sun was shining, the CKIers were working hard! We had a lot of storm damage to clean up, not to mention all the usual set up! One team hauled heavy canvas tents over towering frames, others cleaned and carried mattresses into the tents. Two new tents were made from scratch, and a new deck was prepared. CKI did an amazing job, as usual. Couldn't have done it with you!

Kiwanis One Day: Longfellow School Workday
K-Family group photo after a hard One Day's work.
This year, we went down to Longfellow Middle School to help them with a variety of school projects. There was gardening, some classroom rearrangement, cleaning and light handyperson work. What was expected to be an in-and-out projects turned out to go 2.5 hours over our estimated completion time, what with all the books and shelves and reorganizing, but our CKI'ers and Kiwanians were real troopers. We can be really proud of all our hard work.

Volunteer Readers at Cragmont Elementary
Several members will be hiking up Spruce to spend some of their day reading to K-2nd grade students. The students love guest visitors in the classroom and reading out-loud helps these students develop as independent readers. There were a couple glitches, but I hope that we can continue to have projects with the local schools like these!

Love for Schools:
In order to protect the floors and your tax dollars for years of enjoyment, we helped a local elementary school collect used tennis balls which will be used to cover desk and chair legs. The tennis balls second as a noise reducer as the padding provided by the balls help muffle the sound of metal chairs and table legs on the ground. And it's good for the environment! The balls that otherwise would be tossed into the landfills will be used in the classroom for years and years!
(Love for Schools now called Project reServe)
